Dead Island: The movie?

Today Lionsgate announced that it has purchased the rights to make a Dead Island film. This decions based purely on the hype generated by the epic trailer that dead island had put out a while back.

The trailer will serve as the primary creative inspiration and the film will try to expand the zombie genre to focus on things like human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling. Lionsgate’s co-COO and Motion Picture Group President Joe Drake said, “Like the hundreds of journalists and millions of fans who were so passionate and vocal about the Dead Island trailer, we too were awestruck.”  He continued, “This is exactly the type of property we’re looking to adapt at Lionsgate – it’s sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre that we know and love.  It also has built in brand recognition around the world, and franchise potential.” Lionsgate also had a heavy focus on how impactful the trailer was to the gaming population and said “This is exactly the type of property we’re looking to adapt at Lionsgate – it’s sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre that we know and love.  It also has built in brand recognition around the world, and franchise potential.”

Lionsgate has no concrete plans on directors or actors at the time of the announcement aside that they do have Sean Daniel producing the film who has been involved with films like The Mummy, Tombstone, and Dazed and Confused.

So what does everyone think about this? Do you think they will mess it up or do it justice?
