Tower Defense games are all the rage apparently and for good reasoning. Many of the TD games that have been coming out are actually very enjoyable and each game brings something new to the table that really sets them apart from their competitors. Defenders of Ardania by Most Wanted Entertainment and Paradox Interactive is no different. We were able to preview the game for a while and test out all of its offerings and it is a very solid and rather challenging tower defense game that we can definitely back up. Defenders of Ardania plays like many tower defense games in which you have to set down various types towers that have various strengths and weakness around various maps to form paths for enemy units to traverse. So yes it sounds like a very typical game but it has more than one trick up its sleeve that makes it stand out. It adds the inclusion of 3 factions/clans that have very different types of units as well as towers that can be used to conquer your enemies. They also take tower defense to a new level by adding offense. Yes there have the traditional TD game types that have you just using towers to defend against waves and waves of enemy units but there are other game types that have you both defending and attacking. The objective of these new game types is to take down your opponents base via units that can be upgraded while defending and upgrading your towers so that you are not overwhelmed by enemy units. This game type can be played in a 1v1 setting a 2v2 setting or a free for all setting which is absolutely insane. All these additions really create a unique and impact full experience that not many games in the genre can match. Defenders of Ardania is a game worth looking into and even purchasing when it comes because it will certainly add some life into the genre and give you a wonderful experience at the same time.
The release date is TBD but check out the site here.
Defender of Ardanias innovative new game concepts include light RTS elements, taking the popular genre to the next level. Players must oversee unit production and upgrades while assembling the most effective army from one of three playable races, each with unique locations, towers, and units. However, without magic, a fantasy game is little more than a toothless lion (or dragon, rather), so a wide range of spells will be available for players to decimate their enemies and protect their forces.
Although Defenders of Ardania includes a single-player portion, the focus of the game is undoubtedly multiplayer, where two to four players can take each other on or compete against AI opponents via Internet, LAN, or PSN. The multiplayer component offers three different game modes where players can assume either the defensive or offensive sides –or both!
