This week’s Famitsu confirmed a new .hack game in development. Its title (which for now is just .hack) and platform are still to be announced, but the magazine teases more information to arrive shortly after.hack//Sekai no Mukou Ni‘s (a CG movie) Japanese theatrical release on January 21.
In an interview, CyberConnect2 CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama reveals that the screenshots are all real time and that the game differs from previous installment in art style and that they are going for a more photo realistic approach as opposed to anime.
Also according to Matsuyama, the character in the screenshot may or may not be .hack//GU‘s Haseo. Asked by Famitsu if the character is indeed the GU star, Matsuyama teased that he could not yet say.
The new game project began planning at around the time of the .hack movie, Matsuyama also told the magazine. It appears that the two will be related, as the game takes place in 2025, one year after the events of the movie.
